You people have no idea how hard it is to track down chic people on the streets of El Paso! This time our intrepid reporters had to visit a silo to find the chicly dressed couple below. Look at his hair, look at her bracelets. This couple totally spent time on their hair and clothes before leaving for this art opening and for this we say THANK YOU! The New El Paso Opera Director is HOT!

Check this guy out!

IMG_7424

El Paso Opera Board of Trustees recently appointed Mr. David Grabarkewitz as El Paso Opera’s new Director. From the press release: Mr. Grabarkewitz was approached about the Directorship in March when he was working on “The Magic Flute”. He states that he fell in love with the city almost immediately and saw great potential in El Paso Opera. He further stated that he was very impressed with the fact that El Paso Opera was so open to his innovative “Magic Flute” concepts. “In the world of opera, there is a fine line between honoring the traditions of grand opera and trying to appeal to new audiences,” said Mr. Grabakewitz, “El Paso Opera took a chance on me and my Flute concept and it paid off.”  It was the combination though, of a beautiful city, a beautiful opera house, and the enthusiasm of the people of El Paso however, that inspired Mr. Grabarkewitz to say yes to the position.

Moda Urbana 5.11.09: Statement Hair

As I was leaving dinner on Friday evening, I spotted this bold gentleman in the parking lot. The first thing that caught my eye was his outfit. I love how he played down his formal-esque vest/white shirt combo with some jeans and sneakers. The second thing, his BIG TEXAS HAIR! What do you guys think? –Jessica Escalante

Moda Urbana 5.11.09: Stylish Commuter

Using public transport and looking chic while you do it is the plight of most urban dwellers that have desk jobs. Today, I was excited to follow this chap to work, because A. he was driving a very efficient moped/scooter and B. he looked good while doing it, simple white helmet and perfectly tanned leather man bag, slouched over his shoulder.

Why the back shot? I missed all the reds following him and therefor couldn’t stop him for a photo.

Moda Urbana 5.7.09: Power of the Purse

Let me start by saying that it is totally unfair to choose just one image from this year’s Power of the Purse event at oLo Gallery, as every single person there (including servers) were totally adorable and chic. Let me end by saying, check out how stylish this woman is! Cassie and Jessica picked this woman out from the crowd and those girls know fashion.

“You can’t pay rent making whales.” -Jim Ward

Sleepercar performed this weekend at the Plaza Theatre Annex. The band played for two hours, over 25 songs, no breaks, just some solos. All really beautiful stuff. And the entire time, I was fixated on the two green whales hanging above the stage. Jim Ward gave props to the artist that created them, a student named Ivan Salcedo (need to verify spelling) from UTEP. Salcedo wasn’t at the concert because he was at G2 slinging drinks because making whales doesn’t pay the rent.

I’ll find out how much for the whales, and together El Paso, let’s prove Jim wrong. Let’s help someone pay rent by purchasing the whales they create. I’ll get back to you.
