UTEP to host U.S. Ambassador to Mexico

Nominated by President Obama in June, confirmed in August, the recently appointed U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Carlos Pascual will be at UTEP to discuss the Mérida Initiative.

“The Merida Initiative represents a new era of cooperation which will amplify and strengthen existing law enforcement cooperation, intelligence sharing, and training programs. It will also provide new equipment for Mexican forces to use to better confront the common threat of drug trafficking and other transnational organized crime.” (learn more)

    A new era of cooperation? This is not a new era of cooperation. It is an old era of unconditioned military funding without any attention to how it is spent. The Administration’s perspective on Mexico-US relations and immigration is very disappointing.
